Sae Kim is a designer, a thinker, and a visionary with insights into spatial experiences and concepts at all scales. With a particularly keen understanding of creative processes, Sae is deeply involved in complex, award-winning projects from large urban master plans to architecture and research initiatives. His creative process is founded on the generation and evaluation of multiple design solutions through the lens of problem-solving, storytelling, and value-creation. Deeply grounded in iterative design processes that consider stakeholders of varying interests, Sae believes that a good designer operates with a well established cross-sectoral understanding. Sae is in constant search for design opportunities that would make a positive impact in all walks of life. Interested in all things creative, different, beautiful, and logical.
Sae is currently a Principal at CBT Architects where he leads envisioning projects at multiple scales. He is also the founder of Skeema, a project based collective that applies design thinking methodology to provide solutions at the intersection of design, branding, and business. Prior to founding Skeema, Sae has worked at numerous renowned design firms such as Herzog & de Meuron and Eisenman Architects.
Sae holds a Bachelors of Architecture and Bachelors of Fine Arts from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and a Masters of Architecture in Urban Design (MAUD) from Harvard University, the Graduate School of Design. He has taught multiple graduate-level studio courses at RISD and Roger Williams University and currently leads workshops at Harvard University. Sae is a licensed architect in the state of Massachusetts and a member of American Institute of Architects (AIA).
He received AIA Young Architects Award and the Earl Flansburgh Young Designers Award which recognizes his commitment to design excellence and commitment to sustainability. Excerpt from AIA below:
